Natural Dye Workshop - Sunday November 5th
In this workshop we will teach you the basics of dyeing fabric using natural materials. We will go over the process of how to take a natural material, like a plant, and use it to change the color of fabric. This workshop will also be hands on, and participants will get to dye 2 bandanas that they will get to take home (1 silk bandana and 1 cotton bandana).
In this class we will be using locally foraged plants as well as indigo dye.
Topics covered in this course include:
-natural sources for dye
-how to extract color from natural materials
-what a mordant is, and how to use mordants
Where does the color on your clothing come from? How was the color made? How does the color stay on the fabrics you use? Using natural dyes is a great way to connect with plants and the natural world. Natural dyes are a healthier and more sustainable source for color than the alternative of chemical dyes. Come learn about how color can be made naturally, and connect with the colors that nature can produce. After this course, you will have a deeper insight into where color comes from, and you will likely find that you are suddenly more aware of the myriad of sources of color that have always surrounded you.
We are excited to be hosting this workshop at our farm!!!
