Garland Crew Position
THIS POSITION HAS BEEN FILLED, BUT WE ARE TAKING APPLICATIONS ON A ROLLING BASIS
Each Tuesday, we harvest thousands of individual strawflowers, and then immediately string them all up into garlands. The shift starts early in the morning, typically at 7:00 am - exact time will change depending on weather and the change in the season. If it is forecast to be very hot, then the shift will start earlier to avoid working outside in the heat. The shift is usually 8-9 hours long. We are looking for individuals who are able to work quickly and with a sense of urgency. Training will include learning how to harvest and string flowers correctly, quickly, and efficiently. It will also include learning how we organize our production, storage, and record keeping. We need someone who is able to commit to working each Tuesday for the rest of the season (until mid December). You will also need to be able to tolerate working outside for up to 4 hours at a time in very hot weather, as well as very cold, wet, or windy weather.
Although the job requires a quick pace and a sense of urgency, it is also a very fun job where you get to work with an amazing crew of ladies. Harvesting is all outside work in the sun, or in the fog, or in the wind, but the stringing is done inside where it is air conditioned (when it's hot outside), or heated (when it's cold outside). Stringing is usually done while listening to podcasts, audiobooks, or music. Tuesdays tend to be our favorite days on the farm.
Compensation: $17/hr during your training period. Once you show that you have acquired the ability to do the job quickly and efficiently enough, your pay will be raised to $20/hr. You will be hired as an independent contractor, and you will receive a 1099 for all income paid. You will be paid once a week for all work done the week prior.
